September already–contest around the corner

Hello all, we are already through the first week of September.  The weather is beautiful, which means it is harder to get inside and finish those builds.

Just a reminder, the annual Leavenworth model show and contest is now the first weekend of October.  That will be Saturday, October 5, 2024 and will be at the Heritage Center, 109 Delaware Street in downtown Leavenworth.  We were forced to move it later in the Autumn due to Camp Leavenworth, the town’s new annual festival that ended up coinciding with our contest weekend.  Unfortunately, the parking around the Heritage Center was all blocked off for the festival, so we deiced to move it a little later.

If you haven’t been to the IPMS Prison City Modeler’s contest, it is located downtown Leavenworth, the historic first city of Kansas.  Within walking distance of our venue to a carrousel museum, lots of good restaurants (Mexican, Thai, diners, sweet shops, and two new breweries which opened in the last two years). A little farther afield, less than two miles, is the Frontier Army Museum on Fort Leavenworth (open to the public; you’ll need to go to the visitor center to get a pass to the fort), Richard Allen Cultural Center, Leavenworth County Museum, and many more sites. Leavenworth was the birthplace of Buffalo Bill Cody, candidate Abraham Lincoln spoke here, and famous generals such as Eisenhower, Patton, Sherman (was a lawyer in town before the Civil War), MacArthur have all called Leavenworth home.  Come for the weekend.

The vendor room is full; please help us get the word out with the attached flyer.  Hope to see you in Leavenworth on October 5; doors open at 9:00 a.m.
