It’s finally here– our annual model contest, located in the heart of historic Leavenworth, the first city in Kansas. The set-up from the club is complete– The Heritage Center, located at 109 Delaware Street has 31 tables with 35 categories, and the vendor room contains twenty-one tables just waiting for the goodies to arrive.
Weather looks to be good, perfect for a walk down to the Mighty Missouri or around town as you look at our numerous lunch places. Travel safely, and we hope to see you in Leavenworth!
Hello, just a quick update on the 2016 contest next weekend, 17 September. The trophies were picked up today; we currently have 20 vendor tables sold, and the club shirts have arrived so you can pick us out of a crowd when you get here.
The registration forms and model entry forms are in the contest page, and I just created a Frequently Asked Questions page on some of the contest questions we have gotten over the years.
Hope to see you at the contest on Saturday September 17th, and if you are a club member, remember we meet a week early this month, 14 September so we can do some last-minute judges’ training and assigning of responsibilities.
Hope to see you in Leavenworth!
Our 2016 contest is right around the corner. We posted the contest flyer that you can download and place in hobby shops or send out to your members in the contest page, or you can click here: 2016 Contest Flyer.
Our ad also ran in the newest issue of the IPMS journal.
The contest page contains downloadable registration forms– note, you need one for yourself, and one for each model you plan on entering.
The actual day of the contest will be unchanged from previous years: door open at 9:00 a.m. for modelers (8:00 for vendors only to set up), registration runs until noon, and then judging begins. The award ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m., and our raffle will be running through out the afternoon.
The kind people at the Heritage Center will be providing, for a nominal cost, some snacks and coffee in the morning and something more substantial for lunch and sodas. All profits from the food concession goes to the Heritage Center.
There are still vendor tables available at $10 a table. Please contact Mark if you’d like to reserve some table space.
For those of you looking to make a weekend of it, two new hotels have opened in downtown Leavenworth, as well as some new and updated restaurants within walking distance of the Heritage Center. The Frontier Army Museum on Fort Leavenworth, Carousel Museum, Carrol Mansion and Leavenworth Historical Society and Richard Allen Cultural Center are all nearby and worth a visit.
Looking forward to seeing you in Leavenworth!

I have to apologize for not updating this website sooner. In my defense, it has been a busy time (house fire in January kind of changed my priorities for a while) but that is not a good excuse.
Just to bring everyone up to date–the Prison City Modelers are doing great, we meet next Wednesday, May 18th at the Leavenworth Public Library. We’ll have a demonstration on the use of Clay Shay, an Aves product, as well as displaying our Communist bloc models that we built as part of the club build.
Also check out our newsletter next week. We’ve added a few new sections, including a buy, sell, trade, or give away for free section! As always, we’ll have a recap of the last meeting, Jayhawk Journal, and other interesting articles. If you’ve missed our past issues, here is a link to past issues: click here
Hope you can make it, and bring what ever is on your workbench!
We’ll meet Wednesday, 16 December at the Leavenworth Public Library at 7:00 P.M. We’ll have the room a half hour earlier, so come by early to show off what you are building. I also posted this month’s newsletter, enjoy. Here’s a link: December Newsletter
Hope you have a great holiday, and Merry Christmas.
The kind folks at the IPMS/USA pages posted the photos from our 19 September Leavenworth contest on their webpage. Please go to: http://www.ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/events/2015/PrisonCity/ to see all the fantastic models that were on display that day!
Our December meeting will be coming up in less than two weeks, so if you have items for the newsletter, please send it along.
The monthly meeting of the IPMS Prison City Modelers will be Wednesday, 20 November at 7:00 P.M. in the Leavenworth Public Library. We have the room starting at 6:30, so some early if you want some more time to discuss the latest projects.
The monthly newsletter for October and November are now posted on our site. You can access them here. If you’d like to be added to our monthly newsletter distro list, please send me an email.
Hope to see you at the meeting,
Thank you again to all who came to the IPMS Prison City Model Show on 19 September. We could not have been a success without the modelers, vendors, and sponsors who contributed to the overall event.
We have now posted the results here. Congratulations to our winners, and we hope to see you back next year.
