It is here! See you tomorrow at the contest!

Hello all.  Well, the Prison City Modelers contest is finally here.  The weather looks great, the Centennial Bridge opened ear’ly, and we had a good sized crew down at the venue setting up this afternoon.  The tables are ready, vendor room set, and raffle tables stocked.  Drive safely and see you tomorrow in downtown Leavenworth.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, go to our contest page to down load and fill out your entry forms before you arrive.

Thanks to Ed (on his birthday no less), Tim M, Shane, Alex, and JW for their work this afternoon–the contest site looks ready.

Bridge is open!

Good news for everyone coming from the east- repairs on the Centennial Bridge finished earlier than expected.  Reminder we have our monthly meeting on Wednesday, 19 September, and then the contest is 22 September– hope to see everyone there.

  • The Centennial Bridge closure for this weekend, Sept. 21-24 has been CANCELLED. All needed repair work is complete.
The bridge is completely open for normal traffic operations.
Bridge traffic will occasionally be reduced to one-lane traffic by flagging operations Mondays through Saturdays until Oct. 15 for lighting and expansion joint work.

Contest Date Remains 22 September

Hello all, please help us get a nasty rumor sqaushed– the Prison City Model Contest is next weekend, 22 September. This is the same date that has been scheduled for a year on the IPMS webpage, Fine Scale Modeler links, and this web site, flyers, etc.  If you hear anyone saying it has been moved, please correct them.

On a more pleasant note– our trophies are built and our vendor room is full.  We got word this past weekend that Frank and Son’s Tri-State Hobbies from St Louis will be joining our other vendors, so there should be plenty to buy.

One note: for those of you coming from the east, the Highway 92 bridge, connecting Platte City and Leavenworth will be closed for construction on 21 to 23 September.  Cross the Missouri River either north at Atchinson, or come on I-70 and then north on KS 7/73 from Bonner Springs.  I will post a map on the contest page with alternate routes.

See you all on the 22nd!

Next meeting, 18 Jan at 7:00 p.m.

Our January meeting is right around the corner on Wednesday, 18 January at 7:00 pm at the Leavenworth Public Library.  Congratulations to the new club officers– president Ron Reynolds, vice president Shane Curtis, treasurer JW Dirske, and secretary Mark Gerges. Joining the board is a new position– newsletter editor Gary Ruhnke.

Thanks go to last year’s board, particularly outgoing president Ed Burgess and vp Rick Brownlee.  Ed was the president for the past two years, and gave the club some continuity as we grew as well as a dry sense of humor.

The 18 January meeting will have the normal “Show What ya’ Brung” as well as a demo on the hairspray technique for chipping paint on heavily weathered models. We hope you can make it.

Meeting 16 November

Hello all, just a reminder that our monthly meeting will be held on 16 November at 7:00 p.m. at the Leavenworth Public Library.  Bring what you are working on; the only major piece of business is the nominations are open for the club board and voting will be at the December meeting.  Hope to see you there!

Thanks for coming to the contest!

The special theme award for the best Desert Storm subject being presented to Scott Johnson for this 1:35 Iraqi T-55.

It was a beautiful fall day in downtown Leavenworth, and we had a good turn out of models and modelers from across the region come to the show.  The header across the page shows the USS Massachusetts, the Judges’ choice for Best in Show.  Check back in the next few days as we add photos and captions of the winners in the various categories.  Save the date– we have the venue (Heritage Center again) and IPMS just approved our 2012 show date– Saturday, 22 September.  See you at the regional shows coming up in the next few weeks.

Thanks again to all the modelers who came out, vendors who filled our vendor room, and member of other clubs who volunteered to help judge.  We couldn’t have done it without you all.

IPMS Prison City Modelers

Tommorrow is the day!

Hope to see you all in Leavenworth for the model contest. The venue is looking good, and we’ve expanded into a separate vendor’s room due to the turn-out. Doors will open at 0900 for registration, and to save time you can fill out your forms tonight (go to the contest pages for the blank forms).
Parking will be a little tight in front of the building due to a bicycle race in town this weekend, but there is plenty of parking a block west and around back (south side) of the Heritage Center. There will even be a live band next door beginning at 1:00 p.m. (due to the bike race, not us!). Hope to see you in Leavenworth enjoying this beautiful fall weather.

Upcoming meeting, 17 August

Hello all, just a reminder that we’ll have our monthly meeting on Wednesday, 17 August at 7:00 p.m. at the Leavenworth Public Library.  Discussion will include bragging from Rick on the Nationals, a vacuform demo from Andy, and seeing that we are only a little more than a month away from our contest, some final coordination and planning to make sure all goes smoothly.

Hope to see you all there– bring anything you are working on.

We’re back!

Leavenworth KanasIPMS Prison City Modelers are back! You’ll notice a new website (without much content right now) but keep checking back over the next few days for more information on our 24 September 2011 contest. Until then, finish your projects- the Nationals are just around the corner.

Our next meeting is 17 August at the Leavenworth Public Library. We’ll be discussing the upcoming contest in September, as well as having a technique demo and “show what ya’ brung” to show off what we are working on. Modelers of all ages are welcome.  Hopefully we’ll have some trophies and war stories from the Nationals to share too!
