KC Con 2014 around the corner

Hello all, just a quick reminder that KC Con 2014 is coming up this Saturday, 15 March.  The location is the Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene on 11811 State Line Road. This is being co-hosted by KCAMPS, so armor models will be judged by AMPS rules while all others will be by the normal IPMS method.   Registration begins at 0900, and more information can be found on their webpage at http://www.ipmsgreatplains.org/KCCon2014.aspx

Good luck to all who go, and bring back some photos!

Monthly Meeting, 18 September

Reminder that we’ll be having our monthly meeting on Wednesday night, 18 September at 7:00 pm.  We ‘ll be discussing last minute items for the model contest on Saturday, 21 September, including finalizing judging assignments, forms for registration, etc.  Please try to make the meeting.

As for the contest, set-up is at 0800 on Saturday with the doors opening at 0900 for the general public to register.  If you are a vendor, you can get in at 0800 to set-up, but for everyone else, please wait until after 0900 to bring in your models.  We may have to move tables around at the last minute, and would hate to damage a model that you have spent so much time on.

Hope to see you all on Wednesday, and even more importantly, on Saturday!

Visit to the KC Slammers

Shane an20130806_194709d I had the chance to visit the KC Slammers monthly meeting in north Kansas City. A fun bunch of modelers with a lot of joking and kidding. We were there to ask for some judging expertise for our judging clinic during our August meeting. A couple of guys volunteered to bring up to our meeting and show us the ropes.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Dad’s Toys and Models

From Tim Moran,

I went into Dad’s Toys in down town Leavenworth on 16 November and they have a new selection of models and some paints and other supplies.
I remember at the model show he asked Shane about what he (owner of
Dad’s) would need to do to get more business. Shane gave him some feedback
it seems he took to heart.
I bought some supplies, and the prices did not seem all that much different then Hobby Haven.
I suggest individuals stop by and see what you think and maybe provide some feed back to the owner so we have a viable modeling outlet here in Leavenworth.

Results are posted

Thank you again to everyone who came last weekend.  The results are now posted and we hope to get some photos up shortly.  Congratulations to Bill Pettyjohn who had an unusual first– not only did the judges decide that his model was the most technically correct in the show, but it was also the people’s favorite!

Thanks for coming!

Thank you everyone who came to Leavenworth for our contest this past weekend.  We had a good turn-out, around 50 modelers and 186 models with some very high quality models on the table.  The vendor’s room was full with overflow onto the contest floor.

I hope to have the winners and some photos from the contest posted in the new few days.  Thank you again for attending, and see you next year, Sept 21, 2013 for our 5th annal contest.
