Our president is on vacation this week, but I wanted to remind everyone that there will be a meeting tomorrow night, Wednesday, 20 March at 7:00 pm at the Leavenworth Public Library. We have some business to discuss on the contest, and then a demo on paint chipping using the hairspray technique.
Reminder we’ll be having our monthly meeting at 7:00 pm in the Leavenworth Public Library on Wednesday, 20 February. We will be hosting a model exchange– let me let our president explain the concept:
“we will kick off our internal club contest with a model swap to see who is going to build what. Please bring in an old kit (pre-1980 if possible, but we can be a little flexible there) for random distribution to a fellow club-member. We’ll plan on wrapping the contest up in May when everyone brings in their competed works. If you can’t be at the meeting but still plan to participate in the contest, let me know and someone will draw for you. We’ll have some extra models on hand, so DON’T go out and buy a model for this contest (feel free to bring an extra or two of your own if you have something in your stash that you know you will never build–you know, like that old Lindberg kit that ends up at every single raffle in the KC area but you keep getting stuck with.) Make sure the models are complete–it will definitely increase the degree of difficulty if someone has to build someone without instructions!!”
Hopefully, the weather will hold off until after the meeting, and we’ll see you all there!
Hello, the January meeting for the club is this Wednesday, 16 January at 7:00 pm at the Leavenworth Public Library.
The results of the December elections are in (ok, they were in at the meeting, but if you missed them . . .) Shane Curtis was elected president for the upcoming year, with Tim Moran as the vice president. JW Dirske was re-elected treasurer (in what I understand was a landslide), and Mark Gerges as secretary.
The agenda for this week is to discuss the theme for our fall contest which is scheduled for September 21, 2013. Come with your ideas on a great theme! If you can’t attend but have an idea (or more than one,) send Shane your comments and he’ll them to the meeting.
Just a reminder that are monthly meeting is moved a week early due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We also have a special outing planned– a trip to Sprue Brothers in Liberty for a behind the scenes tour of their operation.
For the Leavenworth crowd, if you would like to carpool, we will meet on Wednesday night, 14 November, at 6:00 p.m. in the Leavenworth Public Library parking lot. We’ll cross level into a few vehicles and will leave at 6:15 sharp. Park in the back parking lot, away from the entry.
For those who want to meet directly at Sprue Brothers, be there at 7:00 p.m. in Liberty, MO.
If you want to purchase anything, they ask that you order from their website before Wednesday and click “will pick up” for the shipping.
Hello, just a reminder that the July meeting is 18 July at 7:00 p.m. at the Leavenworth Public Library. On the agenda is discussion of our September contest as well as “Show What ya’ Brung,” displaying those models you have been working on during this summer heat.
Club members who want to order IPMS Prison City Modelers club polo shirts can order them at the meeting. Cost is $21 for the dark blue polo in S-XL, and $22 for XXL. If you cannot make meeting but still want to order a shirt, please send me an email with your information. I may also have information on custom hats with the logo.
The IPMS Prison City Model club meeting will be Wednesday night, June 20 at 7:00 at the Leavenworth Public Library. We are less than four months from our show, so the agenda includes determining who will do what, counting our stash of models for the raffle, and basically making sure we are ready for the contest.
Other than that, make sure you bring what ever you are working on to show off! See you there.
The May meeting of the IPMS Prison City Modelers is tomorrow night, 16 May at 7:00 p.m. at the Leavenworth Public Library. We’ll have our normal show and tell and club business, and then the demo is the use of pastels in aircraft modelling by John Curatola.
Reminder that we’ll have our March meeting at 7:00 pm on 21 March at the Leavenworth Public Library. This month is our club contest on vehicles in use by countries other than their designers. If you have that Sherman in Israeli colors, or Phantom F-4 in German livery, bring it to the meeting. If you have something that you are just working on, don’t be afraid to bring that too, even if it doesn’t fit the contest.
Hello all, just a reminder that this month’s model club meeting will be a week earlier than usual, on 14 December because of the holidays. Business for this meeting will be club elections. We’ll be in the Jahn Room (our normal meeting room) starting at 7:00 p.m.
Hope to see you all there– bring what ever you are working on.
We had a good turn-out for the 17 August Leavenworth model club meeting, and want to welcome the new CGSC students who took time away from studying to join us. Andy Prawitz gave us vacuforming and thermoforming demonstration, and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one looking at Mattel vacuform machines on eBay the next day.
Biggest order of business was final prep for the 24 September model contest here in downtown Leavenworth. Trophies have been ordered, but it isn’t too late if you want to sponsor a trophy package or be a vendor at the show. More info is available on the contest pages.
We have one more meeting on 21 September before the contest. Hope to see you there, and if not, then at the contest on Saturday, 24 September.
If you have noticed the banners on the club site, they are photos taken by some of our members. Brooks Lyles contributed the photo of the P-38 that has been up the last month, and John Curatola took the inflight photo of the B-17 engines when the aricraft visited Kansas City in 2009. Thanks to both of them for sharing.
