Thanks for coming to our show!

Thanks for everyone who came out to our show on Saturday.  We had a good turnout  of modelers, models, and a nice selection of vendors to help you pass the time as we judged.

Remember to save the date– next year’s contest is 15 September 2018, and the contest theme will be “at the Movies.”  We’ll ave more details in the coming months, but basically any model that represents a vehicle in a motion picture is eligible.

Hopefully we will get the results posted in the next few days from the contest.  Watch here for an announcement.  Also, check out our Facebook page  (link to the right) for a gallery of photos from the show.

Thanks again for coming!

contest tomorrow- 16 September!

The day we’ve been working for all year is here- the 11th annual Prison City Model contest in Leavenworth, Kansas.  Check out our contest page for information on categories, fillable registration forms, and our sponsors!

We have a packed room full of vendors, and the tables are set-up and waiting for the first models.  See you at 9:00 a.m.!

Chapter meeting– contest prep

We are one month away from our 16 September show! Planning is going well– 18 vendor tables sold, trophy sponsorships coming in, and a couple of demos being planned include Tru-Colors new military paint line and a possible 3-D printing display. We have a great meeting planned for tonight, and will finalize our contest theme for 2018–so you can start building for next year.

We’d like to also like to thank some of our recent sponsors–IPMS Fort Crook who is sponsoring the Best of Armor trophy, and A-5:  Prop Driven Aircraft, 1/72 scale.  Tru-Colors Paints out of Phoenix, AZ is issuing a new military colors line in late 2017, and has provided paints samples for the raffle as well as for a demo at the contest of the new military line.

Thanks to all, and hope to see you at the chapter meeting.

Congratulations on Nationals

Congratulations to the Fort Crook IPMS/USA crew for hosting an outstanding convention.

I’d also like to congratulate our crew of modelers who made the trek north to compete. Shane Curtis, Paul Curtis, Ed Burgess, Ron Denning, Rick Brownlee, and Paul Reeb all competed, while Tim Fincham, Doug Hall, and Mark Gerges drove up for the vendors and to see the competition. Winners for our club were Ron Denning with a second in aircraft scratchbuilt and conversions for his CH-54 Skycrane, and Paul Curtis iwith a first place in ships (pre-teens) , first in military vehicles(pre-teens), first in dioramas(pre-teens), and second in aircraft, 1/144 and 1/72 scale (pre-teen)

Well done to all, and can’t wait to hear about your experiences at the August meeting.

Chapter meeting and 16 September contest

Hello all– just a reminder that our March meeting is just around the corner, on Wednesday, 15 March at 7:00 p.m.  We will discuss the results of the chapter’s entries in the IPMS Great Plains-KCAMPS contest this weekend (hint: we did great– congratulations to everyone who went).

One of the major goals of the meeting is discussing the final categories for the 16 September show.  We will finalize those, as well as get a flyer on the website in the next few weeks.  The theme is set– 1967, so get building!

Hope to see you Wednesday.

54mm Hawkeye header photo

The image in the header of the website is a close-up of the groundwork shown at our February chapter meeting by member Gary Rhunke.

The figure on the base is TBG Miniatures Hawkeye figure in 54mm.  The figure is painted with Vallejo paints. The kit came with a resin base and Gary added  Woodland Scenics Realistic Water and Water Effects to create a stream through the center.  The fallen log, leave debris, and moss recreate the Eastern woodlands habitat of the Last of the Mohicans in the wilderness of upper New York. He used a variety of materials to recreate the foliage and other fallen debris of the base.

Excellent work Gary!

Chapter meeting tomorrow night

The October meeting of the IPMS Prison City Modelers is tomorrow night, 16 November at 7:00 pm.  We’ll be discussing nominations for club officers, and most importantly, selecting the theme for our 2017 contest in September, and do our normal Show What Ya’ Brung.

I also posted the newsletters for October November in the newsletter tab.  Here’s a link: http://leavenworthmodelersclub.org/pcm-newsletters/2016-newsletters/

Contest results posted.

Thank you everyone who came out to support our 17 September model show.  From the modelers who worked for months on the models, to the vendors, and guest judges, you all made it a success.  Thanks for coming.

The results are now posted under 2016 contest results.  Photos of many of the models are available on our Facebook page– see the link to the right of this post.
